There can be little questioning the fact that rap as pre-millennials knew it isn't as popular as it was in the 1990s. That won't stop Floyd Mayweather Jr. from sticking to his guns, though. He said as much during a recent stop by DJ Whoo Kid's Shade 45 station, The Whoolywood Shuffle.

During the interview, Mayweather touched on his allegedly forthcoming fight with welterweight MMA champion Conor McGregor, his new business endeavors and the current rap landscape. It was at that point the undefeated boxer claimed he was at odds with the content of newer rappers, which he says has made being addicted to drugs cool.

"Music has changed drastically," Mayweather begins. " And a lot of times when music changes, as we get older, we don't change with the music. So you have to understand: rap has took a heavy turn. At one particular time in rap when it was all about the lyrics. You know, the beats—the lyrics. Now it's ...just a little different."

Touching on those differences, Floyd goes on to say that rappers of his era simply rapped about smoking weed. Presumably referencing the codeine-drenched, molly-riddled rap world of today, Mayweather arrived at his most memorable claim about rap today.

"You know, now...It's okay to be a junkie," he says. "In the music world, it's okay. It's okay to be a junkie. I mean, it's crazy that it's okay to od on drugs. It's okay to take any drugs now. It's okay to be a junkie."

See what else Mayweather has to say in the video below. The bit about rappers making drug addiction cool begins at the 5:55 mark.
