Hip-hop has many traditions for celebrating the dead, from pouring out a little liquor onto the curb to airbrushing names and likenesses of lost loved ones onto clothing. But there’s no tribute that’s more personal or long-lasting than getting tatted up in honor of a fallen comrade.

It’s been less than two months since the tragic death of XXXTentacion, but his hip-hop friends have shown love in a number of ways. For many, that has meant going under the needle. X was heavily tattooed himself, so it’s only right that his rapper homies pay homage by doing the same.

Those dedications have come in a variety of forms, often recreations of X’s tats. Wifisfuneral got the word "Alone," as well as a broken heart inked under his eye, aesthetically similar to a tat of X’s. Bhad Bhabie had X’s “Numb” tattoo recreated on her wrist, while Denzel Curry inked "Wing Ridden Angel" on his right forearm, similar to a tattoo that XXXTentacion had on his right arm—it’s also taken from the name of one of his songs. Meanwhile, Lil Pump took matters into his own hands, taking the tattoo machine himself and inking "LLJ"—short for “Long Live Jaseh," X's birth name—on his arm.

"New Tattoo inspired by PRINCE X," Lil Xan wrote on Instagram, showing off a minimalistic tat of eight black dots down the bridge of his nose, inspired by the dots that X had tatted around his eye. "LEGENDS NEVER DIE AND ENERGY LIVES FOREVER REST IN PEACE."
